Getting clear on what you want

It's the beginning of a new year, a time for reflection and looking forward to what we want to focus on throughout the next 12 months. Health and fitness goals are often top of mind after a season of enjoying our favorite holiday foods and traditions. It's important, during this time, to get clear on what you want so you can effectively create a plan. Here are some tips for breaking through some of the clutter and setting yourself up for success:

First, do some thinking on what you want to obtain in the long term: what do you want your life to look like by the end of the year? What kind of person do you want to be? For example, maybe you want to be the type of person who prioritizes their health and fitness. Getting clear on this bigger picture will help you to frame your goals behind some deeper meaning for you personally.

Next, set more specific and attainable goals that will help you to become that person you aspire to be. If you're working to prioritize your health, your goal might be to exercise three times per week. Or to meal prep at least once per week to have some nutritious options at home.

Finally, decide what steps you can take in the next month in order to get closer to your goals. For example, start scheduling your workouts into your calendar at least once per week - that appointment is non-negotiable and an agreement you have with yourself. If meal prepping is your goal, carve out a couple of hours on your days off to do some cooking. Your future self will thank you!
